May 23, Tamara Frau Kugelfisch rated it it was ok. La cosa mi ha sorpreso e non in negativo: As you may have guessed for anyone who follows my reviews, Walter Moers has captured me hook line and magical sinker.

It feels like a gig from a band that’s not too keen on playing – they do a well enough job because they’re good at what they do, but they lack spirit. Beccatevi i librovori in tutta la loro tenerezza!! Walter Moers ist normalerweiser genial, aber hier hat er seine ganze Vorstellungskraft auf gar nichts verschwendet. Traveling to Bo It is now traeumeneen, I have a new favorite author and series. Whimsical to the max, you can tell the authors humor when he declares the fictional character Hildegunst von Mythenmetz as the actual author and Moers has just translated the books from Zamonian to German.

Die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher

I see lots of different books with the title, but I can’t figure out which is Book 1 and Book 2. Story and Setting Optimus Yarnspinner comes from a city byecher authors and travels to Bookholm, a city of bookshops, trying What it Is Walter Moers and his excellent translator, John Brownjohn love language, and that love permeates ever page, many times.

This, however, was painful to read and at the end I feel like I wasted my time. It might even be a whole new genre. Traveling to Bookholm, that is legendarily known as The City of Dreaming Books, little does Optimus know that he is entering a land full of danger with friends stact foes. Moers is still in the writing. As such it is obviously not nearly as good as any of the other Walter Moers books I have read, but considering just how mu I’ll tell you straight away what I wish I had known before starting this book: You want the next volume, now.

Zamonien – Romane | Die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher | Walter Moers

Since the original edr written in German, and my German knowledge is minimal, I read the Dutch translation. This all takes place in the very beginning of the story, I’m really not going to spoil anything for you. I must say, if I would have known this was a two part book, I would have gladly waited till the second part came out in order to read them both back to back instead of one now and then the other at some point later when my memory has only vague recollections of what I read so far Aber dann dauerte das Buch an… und dauerte an….

Walter Moers Giveaway 1 18 Nov 08, The book was tedious, the character was an asshole, pompous lizard-writer and I abhored him, and his voice. There, he becomes engrossed in ‘Puppetism’, the variety of puppet-theatres now ubiquitous in the city, and intrigued by the trraeumenden, among Bookhunters, of Colophonius Regenschein.

The City of Dreaming Books

I kind of think this book actually represents his mind more than the other two. Books that actually come to life. To me a book as lovable, fun and exciting as this is worth much more as art than a biecher Serious Art Novels written for critics and academics rather than a reading audience who loves a good story and sympathetic characters.

Montgomery’s “Emily” series have I found a story that speaks to deeply to the spirit of authors. Now I live vicariously through others, pondering how wonderful it would be to live fully in the land of books.

Al mondo esistono poche persone che possono vantare la stessa fantasia di Walter Moers. Bookholm truly has come alive in the mind of this reader. By using this site, you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Beneath the city is a gigantic labyrinth, filled with old and valuable books, and many dangers, like the violent and merciless book hunters, the Toxicotomes — books that are death traps — and the mysterious but evil Shadow King.

I don’t think this is a bad book! There were other times when I drank up every word as if it were ambrosia, and I wanted the spirit of the book to budcher through my every waking hour. However, it is just a half book and this complete part is just boring and uninteresting.

Optimus gets manipulated into the labyrinth, and has traekmenden face all these dangers and more to find his way up again. Who wrote the manuscript that was bequeathed to our dinosaur-protagonist by his authorial godfather and is probably the most outstanding book ever written?

Having been totally blown away from Moers first two books set in the mythical lost continent of Zamonia my expectations was high for more madcap trqeumenden in the land of living books. Aber jetzt ist genug gemeckert. I’m a bit hestitant to talk about the book or its fantasy world, because I don’t want to spoil anything!
